A crown is a tooth-like cap that encases the entire tooth surface. A crown protects and strengthens tooth structure that cannot be restored with fillings or other treatments. A dental bridge is a fixed, permanent appliance that is an excellent way to replace missing teeth.

A cast partial denture consists of a metal framework for retention, combined with tissue colored acrylic and replacement teeth. Partial dentures can be used when two or more natural teeth remain in the upper or lower jaw. It is also easier to add teeth to this partial if you loose another tooth.

Periodontal (Gum) Disease

Gum disease is an infection of the gums and other structures around the teeth that lead to bone loss and eventually tooth loss. While often painless, signs of gum disease include bleeding when brushing or flossing and tooth mobility. Gum disease progresses by the formation of a "pocket" or deep space between the gums and the teeth. This pocket is not cleansable by normal brushing and flossing at home, and is a reservoir for bacteria to flourish. The body responds by trying to fight the bacterial infection, which results in high levels of inflammation. This inflammation is what leads to the loss of bone around teeth. Additionally, the inflammation from periodontal (gum) disease has been associated with increased risks of heart disease, low birth weight in babies, and poor diabetic control.
